‘I’m worried’ – Russian passenger lands in Turkey

Story: A Russian man who arrived at Istanbul airport says he was partly left with the Kremlin’s decision. He was traveling alone with his carry-on luggage on a Turkish Airlines flight from Moscow in the morning. Putin made the announcement in a morning televised address a day earlier, sparking fears that some men of school age would not be allowed to leave the country. Fears of being drafted into the military led to flights from Russia quickly selling out and jailing opposition leader Alexei Navalny for calling for mass demonstrations against the mobilization. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that reports of an exodus of men of draft age were exaggerated. Asked about reports that men detained during anti-war protests were getting drafts, Peskov said it was not illegal.
