Darmstadt Herbstmeister |
FCM with a bitter bankruptcy outnumbered
This defeat is particularly painful! 1. FC Magdeburg lost 0-1 (0-0) against leaders Darmstadt 98. The red card for Cristiano Piccini (30) in the 52nd minute is crucial. A wrong decision that changes the game. Before that, the FCM is keeping up well and would have deserved a draw.
In the first 45 minutes, the Magdeburg fans see a fairly balanced and respectable game against the leaders of the 2nd division. In the 12th minute, Phillip Tietz (25) has a huge chance to give Darmstadt an early lead. But he shoots narrowly to the left of the goal. Otherwise, clear shots on goal have been in short supply so far.
35 minutes: Lucky for Magdeburg! FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann (25) misjudged a corner from the left. He comes out of the goal but can’t get to the ball. Patric Pfeiffer (25) hits a forehead from four meters into the half-empty goal after a Müller pass. But the goal does not count because Pfeiffer is just offside. The video evidence confirms the decision of referee Wolfgang Haslberger.
The FCM goes into the half-time break with a 0:0. You can build on that. But then it gets really bitter.
54 minutes: Red for Cristiano Piccini (30)! The scene: Marvin Mehlem tries to get past the Italian central defender on the left corner of the penalty area. He goes to the ball with his hand to clarify the situation. First, Piccini received a yellow card and a free kick was awarded to Darmstadt. But then the video referee turns on. Result: red card for emergency braking. A wrong decision!
Titz reacts (57th). Brings in centre-back birthday boy Jamie Lawrence (20) for Tatsuya Ito (25), who in turn only came on in the 28th minute for the other birthday boy Jason Ceka (23, unwell).
Magdeburg are fighting with everything they have to avoid falling behind and take a point against the leaders. The FCM fans cheer extremely loudly.
78 minutes: 0:1. After a corner from Kempe, Pfeiffer heads the ball into the goal. No chance for Reimann and the FCM defense. Darmstadt is autumn champion!
